Boekenmijn was founded by Boekwinkeltjes.nl (“Little
bookshops”) and Totemboek. Boekenmijn is easily accessible and attractive for
authors. It was meant to make it easier for visitors to look for books, choose
selected parts, and manage newsletters. With the help of Digitale Pioniers
Boekenmijn changed into a satisfactory electronic distribution channel for
exclusive and small publications. The site is now provided with a CMS, and has a
more professional overall look and feel.
Final products
The site is built with Geeklog, an open source weblog
system. The software can be downloaded for free and, because of the public
source code, be adapted to one’s own demands. For this the support of a
professional web builder was called upon. Boekenmijn let a student in communication science, found on
Communicatiecoach.nl, write a communication advice. This plan helped a lot in
deciding about the most effective way of spending the budget.
Impact
Boekenmijn enables authors and publishers to sell their
contributions to the cultural heritage. Projects of this kind are not known in
the Netherlands or elsewhere. Meanwhile 64 publishers are connected via
Boekenmijn. They represent 200 authors who are responsible for 280 titles. The
number of visitors has risen to almost 3,500 per month.
