Donkeypedia
www.donkeypedia.org (still under construction)
Donkeypedia
is a project in which a donkey will walk true the Netherlands (and later on in
Europe as well). The donkey will visit al kind of villages, cities and schools
to raise drawings, objects, videos about the pupils environment and the context
which they have in Europe. The donkey will take along this object on his
further trip, so this information can inspire other children to think about the
project. In the end
there will be a pallet of thoughts from young European civilians about the
future of their continent. At the end of the trip the donkey will give his
findings to the policymakers in Brussels. At this way the donkey will function
as a collective memory, produce information, geo-tag knowledge, ask questions,
find answers and share content digitally as well as real life.
This
adventure starts in the spring of 2008 in the Netherlands. In three weeks time
the donkey will walk from the German border to Amsterdam. Later on in 2008 the
donkey will travel for a few months through Europe, starting at the Eastern
border to the heart of Europe, Brussels. The donkey will try to cross as many
countries possible. To follow
the donkey, there will be developed a live website at which the result of the
project will be presented. At
www.donkeypedia.org
(not yet online) one will find answers given to questions about an European
theme. The site shows the associations other children have concerning Europe.
This can be the associations of Dutch children, but it can as well be the ones
of other European youth.
Final Products
With the
help of Digital Pioneers a playfull tool will be developed at which a dynamic
visualisation will be created to show the objects children along the route have
created. The Shared Association Tool (SAT) is part of a live website. This tool
is accessible for all children who want to participate an react on questions
and answers of children participating along the donkeys route. The users of SAT
can respond through pictures, texts, sound and video. The SAT is using geographical
data given by locative media software from 7Scenes in combination with
GoogleMaps?
to connect content, route and location.
Mobile
technology made by 7Scenes is used by Donkeypedia to give children the
opportunity to position GPS data on a map and so to create a route. The youth
will at this way send the donkey to ascertain places in a country by giving him
certain tasks to do. On the spot the donkey will collect data like pictures,
videos and interviews.
In
combination with Tropenmuseum jr. in Amsterdam in the end there will be an
exhibition of the collected data.
