Inge Lub executed a Fruitdate pilot on four schools. The
principle of Fruitdate is simple and effective: put a sticker on every piece of
fruit with a number and two personal ads: one from a girl and one from a boy. If
an ad is appealing one can type the number on www.fruitdate.nl.
Now one is directed to the personal page of the ‘date’. If
one answers 3 questions (chosen by the ‘date’) correctly, one receives his or
her fruit date’s e-mail address and the dating can begin. Eating fruit becomes
fun this way. Before starting the project Inge made a communication plan. Youths
are not easily tempted to eat fruit, but Inge succeeded all the same. Her plan
is in the library.
Impact
The response Inge received on the four schools varied. If on
a school one or more persons helped enthusiastically the project always
succeeded. It appeared to be possible to attract the students’ full attention
for four weeks. Some of them helped organizing or tried to enthuse their fellow
students. Inge invented a new way of letting students pay attention to fruit.
During the pilot 30 crates of fruit were consumed, which equals more than 1000
pieces of fruit. The chatting is still going on on Fruitdate.nl. People who are
