Children who are refugees have a need to present their talents; it gives them a sence of self respect, a place in the insecure no man's land they live in. The National Association to improve Happyness (the Vrolijkheid) has organized cultural projects with children in asylum centres through the Netherlands for six years now. To make these cultural projects visible, the Vrolijkheid develops the website ‘Hier Sta Ik’ (Her I am) where movies, animantions and photoprojects of young refugees from a variety of cultures are shown to the public.

Final products

The gallery on the website shows art expressions of the children to the visitors: video-, photgraphy- animations. Around this a community will develop, for and by young people. Here they can make their own website with room for tekst, a movie or pictures. When this creative process is started with the kids, they can make their webpage grow. Friends will get a message when the page is changed or updated. This will stimulate them to work further on their own page.

The Vrolijkheid Foundation supports the idea to open Hier Sta Ik for several different groups who want to present their talents, like for instance children in hospitals or living in bad neighbourhoods.
