Hotel Dramatik is a meeting point on the internet for playwrights and theatre lovers. Via its rooms the Hotel, a 3D environment, offers an inspiring working space for playwrights. They write scenes that take place in the rooms. After every scene a character is sent forward to another room and thus picked up by another author. The texts are made available for the audience. Via the bar and the guestbook the Hotel offers interactive possibilities for visitors. Playwrights can chat with each other, but the visiting audience can also engage in a conversation with a writer. Apart from that, visitors can read the magazine on the counter with news, background info, reviews and announcements. The library offers a wide range of plays.

Final Products

The website is being developed like a hotel with an entrance, a counter, a lobby, etc. There is a chat environment (the bar) and rooms in which the participants’ texts are stored and can be commented on. There is a virtual survey of the hotel in 3D. In a digital magazine present-day repertoire from the Netherlands, Flanders, and foreign countries is being described. This magazine appears several times a year.

Impact

For initiating Dramatik projects a team of editors is formed that has at its disposal a large network within the international theatre world. At this moment there are engagements with the playwrights training of the Hogeschool voor de Kunsten in Utrecht, the Steunpunt Literair Vertalen of the University of Utrecht and the faculty of Theatre Science of the University of Amsterdam. There are talks pending with Theaterwerkplaats Gasthuis and Generale Oost as well as with the theatre companies NTG in Gent and Het Zuidelijk Toneel in Eindhoven. There are contacts with Theaternetwerk voor Amateurtoneel. Cooperation with German playwrights is already on its way and there are contacts with Canadian playwrights associations as well. The website appears in four languages.

This project was executed between February 2004 and February 2005.
