The independent site
www.huismannen.nl exists since 2000 and is the only serious website in its domain. A growing
number of men choose to take over a part of the care for the children and the
housekeeping. The site functions as a meeting point for house husbands. It tries
to offer objective information to those men (and women) who are considering a
possible new division between work and career, and care and childraising. With
the help of Digitale Pioniers the site is fully renewed. The site is provided
with a CMS so that more people can contribute to the maintenance. Five files are
added about politics, housekeeping, rights and duties, care and raising, and
male/female relations. Much more interaction has been added, via a poll tool, a
forum, and e-mail competitions. Apart from this a lot of attention was given to
attracting new visitors and rendering the foundation financially independent.
Final Products
The Content Managing System is written in the open source
programming language PHP. This was done by Marcel van Veelen of Huismannen.nl
itself. The modules ‘recipes’ and ‘propositions and inquiries’ are independently
available.
Impact
Huismannen.nl has grown considerately and become a solid
organization. The project is now, via the foundation, supported by a larger
group of people. The increased professionality has also led to financial
independence. New target groups are reached by lectures and publications. All
this gets the website in touch with daily life and keeps it in the air.
