Stichting de Nederlandse Literaire Database (“the Dutch Literary Database Foundation”) is an internet community about post 1900 Dutch literature and literature translated in Dutch. The website tells what’s going on in ‘literary Holland’. With the help of Digitale Pioniers the already existing website was brought under the attention of the target group via marketing strategies.

Final Products

www.literairnederland.nl is a real community now. There is news about what’s going on in literary Holland, information about literary magazines, a forum with current and non-current topics, an online reading club, a ‘writer of the week’, a ‘book of the week’, a top-10 of the most popular books according to Literair Nederland, one’s own bookshelf with one’s own notes about books, reviews by fellow members, reviews of translated works, opinions, quotes by writers and information about writers.

Impact

Literair Nederland now sends a weekly newsletter with content that is being transfered from the database automatically. The newsletter’s look can differ every week. Furthermore, some archive functions have been improved, so that once inserted content can easily be recovered. The forum is extended and improved; a chat module was realized. All together these yielded many new members, many new visitors, and a better contact with the community

In the meantime the foundation is getting support for continuing the communication strategy of sponsored links. It was found that because of these links the number of visitors increased substantially, as did the numbers of new and returning members.

This project was executed between February 2003 and August 2004.
