Asked about scars from one’s youth associations are being set free that tell more than the actual event that caused the scar. The Cut-n-Paste foundation collected scar stories at places where people meet each other. For the meetings a theatrical presentation was created, a bus including doctor and nurse, who record the scar and the story digitally. Scars fade away, and when nobody asks about them, the memory disappears too. The project has been thought up by the Cut-n-Paste foundation, started by Nathalie Faber and Carolien Euser. For this project they worked together with Rogier Dijkman, audio visual artist and painter. Cut-n-Paste’s projects usually have a documentary character. The use of media varies from radio, television and internet to installations on location.
Impact
During the sessions in the memory bus some people experienced unexpectedly heavy emotions. By putting on media as a means to let people talk about their past, interesting conversations were made possible. Five radio broadcasts were made of this material, which happened to be extremely suitable for this end. On the website all memories stay accessible.
This project was executed between June 2004 and March 2005.
