The Maroc.nl foundation is a non-profit organization that has as one of its foremost goals the maintenance and expansion of a digital platform in order to further the information about, the communication with, and the integration of migrants in Dutch society. Maroc.nl is a popular community with thousands of visitors each day. It was the first community website for migrant youths. With the help of Digitale Pioniers Maroc.nl wants to offer voice functionalities to make the community more exciting, more accessible, closer, more interesting, and bigger.

has been extended with a voice chat application and a voice board. With the voice chat one can actually talk via the site. The voice board keeps the chat up-to-date. Spoken and written text mingle with each other. This adds a new dimension to the community. The indirect aims are: strengthening identity, stimulating participation, transfer of knowledge, and renewal. The voice chat has broad application possibilities, for instance supervising homework in a native language. To this end a pilot will be started with an educational institute.
Impact
Maroc.nl did extensive research in order to pick the right software for the voice chat and voice board. In the end the foundation chose a software package (Glassroom) from a commercial company. At the request of Maroc.nl this party was prepared to make a few adjustments. The new functions are incorporated in a new version of the package. The voice board was developed by the company itself. The voice chat package can produce a big number of chat rooms which can operate independently from each other. Maroc.nl itself uses a few, and offers interested non-profit organizations the possibility to furnish an own room (on their own site).
