The Virtueel Inburgeringsloket (“Virtual Acclimatization counter”) foundation informs migrants via a digital medium, the Virtueel Inburgeringsloket (VI), and aims to enable them as fast as possible to function in Dutch (knowledge) society. Before and during the production of VI Farshad Soleymani did extensive research about potential users and their needs. An important result was: pass the information in a playful manner. That’s why the Virtueel Inburgeringsspel (“Virtual Acclimatization game”) was developed. With the help of Digitale Pioniers the Nationaal Integratie Spel was developed which aims at moving migrants in a playful manner to work independently at their integration processes. The concept of the game is new in the acclimatization field, because of the way in which the migrant is informed and involved at his integration in Dutch society: a relaxed one.

Final Products

The game has been developed in open source and can therefore be adjusted and extended by everyone who wants to. On www.inburgeringsloket.nl you can find the online version of the game which is being renewed constantly by adding more questions. A demo CD-rom is available so that everybody without internet can still play the game. In the library one can find the users research for the game, in which a lot of attention was given to the users interface and especially the use of colours and a time bar.

Impact

With the online game the Virtueel Inburgeringsplatform has got an attractive instrument to make integrating more fun for migrants. The game is ready and when more questions enter the database we will certainly hear more of it. It could become a permanent part of the acclimatization course for migrants. Migrants who attend such a course at the ROC in Eindhoven already use the game as part of the Maatschappij en Oriëntatie (“Society and Orientation”) lessons.
