Open Street Map
www.vrijschrift.org
In most
countries, including the Netherlands,
street maps are only available under licence conditions which obstruct new and
innovative use of this maps. Openstreetmap (OSM), a from British origin
initiative, collects geographical data and makes it available underneath a
Creative Commons license (CC-BY-SA). At this way OSM encourages to use maps at
new and interesting ways that otherwise wouldn’t be possible. Besides that,
people can use the data now for making maps and could for example use it for
open source navigation software.
Final products
The organisation Vrijschrift wants to use the help of Digital Pioneers
for making a Dutch OSM community by organising mapping parties. At
those parties volunteers will systematically collect map data of the three main
cities in the Netherlands: Amsterdam, The Hague and Rotterdam. When, like in England, a strong
community is formed, Vrijschrift hopes to map the surplus of
the Netherlands in two to three years.
