Poetry slam is an expressive form of live poetry, usually with a competitive element whereby several poets slam for the favour of the jury and the audience. Slamsphere takes the audio-visual power of slamming as a starting point. The poet’s personality and performance distinguish slam poetry from the paper version. Slammers are invited to make a sequel to somebody else’s poem. In the process they film themselves with a hand-held camera on a suitable location. There is one condition: they should incorporate an important sentence from the previous contribution into their own poem. This way a web of slams comes into being, presented online within this project.

Final products

Already tens of slams appeared on www.slamsphere.nl forming the base for a challenging meeting point for the Dutch slam community. For organizers of slam festivals and contests the site functions as a source of talent.

Impact

Slamsphere shows that poetry slam is very suitable to present online. Every week at least one slam is sent in. Real story structures already start to develop. Soon an international chain will be disclosed.
