The Sonokids foundation develops (internet) applications and websites for blind and partially sighted children and youngsters, like the multi-lingual web portal www.sonokids.com web tool
MaX? (version 2.0) and
RadaR?, the Oorspel (“Ear play”). In 2004 a group of regular visitors proposed a plan to start with internet radio. Together with these youngsters Sonokids executed a number of very successful pilots. These pilots taught that it was possible to legally make radio broadcasts from one’s own computer for and by visually handicapped youths. This was the starting point for the project.
Final products
Sonokids developed a website for the blind as well as the sighted, from the points of view of radio makers and listeners. The site consists of, among others, instructions, rules, a forum and of course audio clips. The site’s content is largely stipulated and written by the management teams from the Netherlands and Scotland, consisting of blind youths who cooperate with the Sonokids team. On Danish national radio once a month a radio show is being made partially consisting of audio clips from Sonokids radio. Via www.sonokids.com the following parts are available for other projects:detailed instructions for downloading and installing Winamp and Shoutcast for the blind
