VJology
www.globalstage.tv
In 2004 the first VJology Festival was launched in P60 to
attract more attention to the phenomenon of vj-ing. Apart from a solid
electro/techno line-up a national vj contest was the mainstay of this weekend.
In 2005 the organization moved towards a more interactive and international
level, by letting the vj contest mainly take place on globalstage.tv.
Globalstage is an audio-visual connection via internet between several stages in
the world. It offers the possibility to watch and listen to programmes on these
stages simultaneously. The user can virtually walk around on these stages, and
he can informally exchange information with other visitors.
Final products
With the help of, among others, Digitale Pioniers a
vj-channel has been developed by Lightmaker (UK) where vj’s can upload material.
A contest module was developed by which users of Globalstage.tv (on average 500
a day from 21 different countries) can vote for vj’s and dj’s who show their
material in the media room (vj-lounge). Globalstage enabled vj’s to make their
own profiles plus URL with an upload module by which visuals can be put online.
In the media room visuals are shown daily via a vj-channel. During the contest
905 visitors cast their votes. In March 2005 more than 4,200 persons were
registered on Globalstage, in April the number was 3,500.
A live stream of the contest was broadcasted on www.globalstage.tvThe festival was followed online by 305 persons. VJology
2005 can be seen on VPRO’s 3 voor 12 and MTV Europe. The judging of the entries
for the festival largely took place online on Globalstage.tv. The members of the
jury were present in the media room and could respond directly to the visual
material. The next VJology will take place on May 27th and 28th, 2006.
Impact
In the period between March and May 2005 almost 15,000
persons visited the website. They came from all over the world. Through
cooperation with parties from Finland, Tanzania, Ethiopia, the UK, Germany and
many other countries the vj world has formed a new, interactive, and virtual
stage. Visitors inspire each other with their work and creations. In the mean
time there is talk of an international network that in the near future will
apply for a grant from the EU to bring about Globalstage’s long-lasting
existence. Globalstage is then likely to become a separate organization.
This project is executed between November 2004 and May 2005.
