The website is mainly about the exchange of knowledge. People can get acquainted
with the work of the Vlinderstichting (Foundation for butterflies) which is available via this website for a broad audience, and visitors can
exchange advice via the guestbook.
There is information about butterfly-friendly gardening and
there is an extended database containing (garden)plants. On the base of one’s
postal code a selection is being made of suitable plants for the relevant soil.
One can also receive a survey of the butterflies that have been sighted in one’s
neighbourhood. From the plants database one can directly link to the
plantfinder, where pictures of the plants are available. For the ones who cannot
make a selection of plants on their own, border examples are shown from members
of Vereniging Wilde Weelde (Wild Wealth Club).
Impact
The website offers a concrete handle for people who want to
make their garden butterfly-friendly. Users can put in basic data like postal
code, garden size, position in the sun, and special wishes about a terrace or
lawn. Next they receive a personal advice made to measure with extended
information about which plants can be planted best on which spot in the garden
for the kinds of butterflies that are to be expected. The internet programme is
meant to direct people in a simple and appealing way at furnishing their garden
butterfly-friendly. Because of the many activities and the publicity won by
them, ever more people know that they live in the Butterfly path. By 2006 as
many people as possible should have made their garden really butterfly-friendly.
